What should you ask a company
When you need to have work done to your heating, air, or duct system, don’t simply throw a dart at the phone book. Take a little time to talk to a couple of companies and “interview” them. Asking important questions can save you time, money, and aggravation. What should you ask? Here are five important questions:
1.) Do you charge for estimates?
Ask the companies you contact if they charge to provide an estimate and if so, how much? This is important information for you to know upfront because if they do charge, that means you’re locked into spending a certain amount whether you have them fix the problem or not. We do not charge for estimates.
2.) Do you use employees or subcontractors?
Someone from the HVAC company is going to be in your home, and its important to be sure that you can trust that person. You should also ask if the individual, whether they’re an employee or subcontractor, has undergone a background check, drug test, or some type of verification. Its also a good idea to make sure the company is insured. Don’t be afraid of coming off as overly protective - after all, this is your home and your family.
3.) What are your credentials?
If you’re going to be paying a company to fix your heating, air, or duct problem you want to make sure they’re going to get the job done right the first time. Ask how much experience they have, what kind of training they’ve undergone, and if they’re licensed.
4.) Do you provide emergency service?
Unfortunately, most heating, air, and duct problems do not happen at convenient times such as during business hours. You’ll want to make sure the company you’re talking to has emergency service or you could be spending a very long weekend without heating or air conditioning.
5.) What products do you offer?
The HVAC technician your dealing with is the expert, and you should definitely value their opinion when it comes to picking out a new heating and air system or product. Shout out to this business. A couple weeks ago my 86 year old grandmother got scammed by another guy and was without air conditioning for a week. This guy came the same day and was able to fix it and even gave it to her completely free because of how terribly treated she was by the other company.

Jim has serviced our old furnace and AC for the last few years, and he kept both of them going through various repairs (we wanted to wait as long as we could to replace them). He just installed a new Trane furnace and air conditioner for us, and we couldn't be happier. I found my Trane furnace blowing cold air on Jan 22, 2013 at 5:45pm... it was 7 degrees outside. I made it through that night and called a local Machanical repair company the next morning; Valentine Mechanical Services... Jim Valentine answered the phone and said he could be there within a couple of hours! His rates were more than reasonable and his service and professionalism was off the charts! The problem, as it turned out, was complicated but Jim took control and fixed my Trane XB90 gas furnace within 3 hours. Jim Valentine installed a Bryant system in my home and repaired the air flow to my 2nd story by fixing some seriously questionable work done by the previous home owner. In the summers my 2nd story would often be ten or twenty degrees above the 1st story. This is no longer the case. Now the difference between the two floors is always within a minuscule 3 degree difference as I still have additional work to do in the house. I thank Jim and his contractors personally for improving my quality of life exponentially. We were extremely pleased with the service we received from Jim Valentine.
Our AC went out on Memorial Day weekend, the hottest weather so far this year, at that point -- 93 degrees. After spending a miserable night, we were ready to do anything to correct the problem. We called Jim Valentine. He said he would be there within an hour, and he was. He quickly discovered that a capacitor had gone bad, so he replaced it. Total time for the repair: about half an hour. Although he wasn't going to charge us for a full hour of service, we paid him for an hour anyway. It was less than a hundred dollars, including the part. Who else would come out on a holiday, repair the problem and charge less than a hundred dollars? Jim has earned our respect and loyalty. We will definitely call him first when future needs arise.
